Fire Department
• Chief Hauck reported that the village has accepted an offer from Lincoln Heights Fire Dept. to purchase the 2001 Horton ambulance for $14,000. It is Chief Hauck’s position that helping the Lincoln Heights Fire Dept. will hopefully alleviate some burden on the Evendale Fire Dept.
• Chief Hauck also informed the committee that the 1997 Scott 4.5 Air Packs will be sold to the Stonelick Township Fire Dept. for $6,000.
• The Tower 40 ladder truck has been repaired and returned. The mechanism that was the cause of malfunction in similar units across the country has been replaced with a significantly stronger cabling. The Fire Dept. will go through a period of re-familiarizing themselves with the unit and perform further testing before the unit is placed back into service.
• Bunge has agreed to reimburse the village for the equipment that was damaged or destroyed in the fire and the days after.
• Chief Hauck informed the committee that dispatch fees will increase 5% from $18.30 to $19.22 per detail.
• Chief Hauck informed the committee that Village Solicitor, Tim Burke is drafting an Ordinance to create stronger sanctions for anyone pulling a fire alarm inappropriately, disabling a fire alarm or re-arming the alarm prior to the Fire Dept. evaluating the situation
• Chief Hauck informed the committee that he had just been informed that the 2002 Expedition Command car has a cracked cylinder and that it will cost approximately $5,000 to replace the engine. After discussion as to the cost of a new vehicle, which would approach $40,000, it was determined that the appropriate course would be repair the Command car. The new engine will come with a 3 year warranty.
• Matt Stroh, resident and Eagle Scout candidate, will begin distributing his emergency kits to the elderly. So far he has 16 requests with a capacity of distributing 25 kits.
• Chief Hauck will have an ordinance on the December agenda designating specialists for the upcoming year.
Recreation
• Mr. Nichols reported that they only received one bid each for the pool and fitness center contracts. Lifestyle Fitness was the only bidder for the fitness center with an annual contract of $78,000. Swim Safe was the only bidder for the pool contract at $171,000.
• Mr. Nichols informed the committee that they are in need of one new recreation commission member.
• There will be two part time hiring ordinances on the December agenda.
Police
• Chief Korte informed the committee that he will also have an ordinance designating the specialists for 2015.
• Chief Korte discussed the Walmart protest through the United Food Workers and another independent group that picketed Walmart, asserting Walmart’s unfair pay practices. There were no altercations although Police personnel did have to restrict some picketers from entering Walmart.
• Chief Korte has once again emphasized the severe heroin problem in the region. Within the last few weeks, there have been a few dozen break-ins for the first time. In the past, they were simply entering vehicles that had been left open. Once again, we encourage everyone to remove all valuables from their vehicles and to make sure that everything is properly locked up and that garage and front doors always remain closed and locked.
Upon a Motion by Bill Puthoff, seconded by Jeff Albrinck, the meeting adjourned at 7:30.
